FRUIT IS COMING!!!!!

I was forwarded this email and thought some of you may be interested.......

I know a lot of you have been waiting to get fruit from Utah. I finally got the list of what is available and the price (everything is coming on about a week and a half behind schedule this year due to the late winter.) Bad new is that they lost some of their crops, mainly pluots and grenades.

Below is the list of what will be available at the time he delivers. Right now he is planning on coming down NEXT Thursday the 22nd of September. He usually arrives in the early evening. I need to have an estimate of what we want by this Saturday but can I take orders up until Tuesday morning.

Many of you may be interested in splitting a box. If you can, find a friend to split it with and work it out with them. It is so much easier for me when ordering to just work with full boxes, and it gets too crazy on my end to try to do all the dividing up. Worst case would be you would have to split it yourself when you pick up your fruit.

Another change from last year is that I will be collecting the money in advance. Once you drop off your check, that will guarantee your order. The check will be made out to me: Rachelle Hulet. (I also might be able to work something out with paypal payments)

I hope I remembered everything. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me back at
RACHELLEHULET@GMAIL.COM or call me on my cell phone: 702-539-0420.

ALSO: PLEASE forward this on to anyone you think might be interested in ordering. He does have a minimum box order that we have to hit in order for him to justify driving down from Payson, UT.

Summer Lady Peaches 3/4 box 32 lbs $35.00
Summer Lady Peaches 1/2 bushel box 22 lbs $25.00
Pears 3/4 box 38 lbs $35.00
Gala Apples bushel box 42 lbs $36.00
Honey Crisp Apples bushel box 42 lbs $50.00
Tomatoes 1/2 bushel box 23-25 lbs$22.00
Corn dozen $5.00
Tart Cherries 8 lb pail $15.00
Tart Cherries 30 lb pail $35.00

*the honey crisp apples may seem pricey but are WORTH it! They are much more expensive in the stores.
*summer lady peaches are great for canning
*the variety of pears is also great for canning

Powdered Eggs

Flour, Wheat, Rice, Beans are great to have but your still missing an ingredient!  To make those yummy cookies, cakes, pies, breads you need EGGS.

Please write your name and how many you would like to order, when I have all the orders in I will call you about the final price per #10 can and collect the checks.

Thank you Serene Ward!

Here are the pricing for a #10 can of Whole powdered eggs.  I would love to put in an order of 60 or more to save us all money :)  (life is 12mths opened, 5-10 years unopened)

Honeyville's Powdered Whole Eggs are produced though a special process designed to provide a free flowing powder that has been pasteurized for your safety. Originally developed for use in the military, our whole egg powder, when blended with water, reconstitutes into a product similar to fresh whipped eggs. These reconstituted eggs may then be used as a direct substitute for fresh eggs. One 2.25 pound can of Powdered Whole Eggs is equivalent to about 78 Large Fresh Whole Eggs. Our whole egg powder is non-perishable and requires no refrigeration and is ideal for camping, travel, and long-term food storage. This product may be stored for up to 12 months opened, and 5 to 10 years in airtight sealed cans.

Reconstitution Instructions:
To reconstitute one egg, mix 2 Tablespoons of powdered whole egg with 4 Tablespoons of water. Use for any recipe that calls for eggs. When using with other dry ingredients, it is not necessary to reconstitute egg. Simply add to other dry ingredients and increase water measurements in mixture to necessary amount.

Applications:
Spray dried whole eggs can be used in any application where fresh eggs are called for including scrambled eggs, omelets, and as a protein supplement in your favorite smoothie or health drink.  Powdered eggs can be added to your favorite recipes with comparable results.  Since powdered eggs have been pasteurized, there is no need to cook the product.  Once a powdered egg has been rehydrated it should be treated as a fresh egg and used immediately.  Dried eggs are great for camping, hiking, and survival preparation.  The long storage life and ease of transport make dried eggs and egg whites ideal for outdoor preparation.

Storage:
Honeyville's Powdered Whole Eggs can be stored 5 to 10 years sealed and unopened, and up to 12 months opened.  As always storage life is dependant on storage conditions.  Always store food products in a cool, dry place for optimum storage life. Each # 10 Can of Dehydrated Eggs contains 2.25 pounds of product. A #10 can measures 7 inches tall and is a little over 6 inches in diameter, or roughly the size of a large coffee can.

Good for all recipes

Used these in various recipes and they work EXACTLY like fresh eggs. Tried as simple scrambled eggs, and they *taste* the same, but the color isn't natural. So, fine like that for emergencies, but we'll stick to using it for cooking, not scrambling ...
Best Powdered Eggs
Monica (Los Angeles) 12/1/2010 7:02 AM
I bought 2 cans of the eggs - one to use now and one for food storage. My husband was initially skeptical, but he loves them now. We're not big egg eaters and just use them for baking and in recipes. The pies, cookies and pancakes have turned out great. I also like not having to worry about running out of eggs. I have already recommended this product to several friends. It's a food storage must have, esp, when you think of all of the things already in your food storage that need eggs (pancake mix, cake mixes, cookies).

Thank you Monaca and Nancy for filling the orders last month at the Cannery!!!!!

Discovering Wheat

Since in September you are able to purchase Wheat I thought it would be a good idea to tell you how to use it from your Food Storage.

Red Wheat:  Great all round wheat.
                     Can make cereal, bread
                      and muffins and pancakes.

However :   Cereal is very good.
                                Breads and pancakes
it is way to heavy for
                                 these items to turn out
                                 well or even taste well
                                 in my opinion.
*** If you have a lot of this get some Vital Wheat Gluten and
add this in to lighten your wheat so it will turn out better.

White Wheat :  Best used for nice Bread

Soft Wheat  :   Best used for pancakes and Muffins
or anything you would use Baking
Powder or soda in.  Not Yeast
                                  recipes.

How to survive an Earthquake

What you need to buy to prepare for the Big One.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 hit the East Coast on Tuesday afternoon. Back in March, Slate columnist Farhad Manjoo wrote about the importance of earthquake kits and reviewed some important essentials. His article is republished below.

Tis the season!

Summer is the best time for making freezer jams with all the wonderful fruits out there!  Buy your fruit in bulk and make some jam to last all winter long. You can go to the store and pick out a box of pectin (my favorite is Sure-Jell http://www.walmart.com/ip/Kraft-Baking-Canning-Premium-100-Natural-Sure-Jell-Fruit-Pectin-1.75-oz/10292609 ) they give you a reciepe in the box and how much fruit to by for the certain type of jam you wish to make.  Or here is a great site to show you step by step what you need to do.

As the Johnons talked about on Sunday....We need to prepare and be ready for anything.

This up coming acivity will be a great place to get those clothes & shoes you may need to update your 72 hour kits! Also you may find a backpack or 2.  Old Backpacks are great to put each of your childens 72 hour kits in(also the school year is coming to an end, if your getting them new ones next year save their old ones)  .
"Free" Bay Event
Drop off: May 13- All Day
                May 14-Before 2:00 pm
Event:     Saturday,May 14 3-7pm
                Robindale Stake Center Cultral Hall

You can have a FHE night on Emergency preparedness and have them pack there backpacks with things they may need and show them how to use them:)   Here is a list of items you should have in your 72 hour kits.

72 hour kits
□ supply of water (one gallon per person per day)
□ first aid kit and prescription medications
□ extra pair of glasses
□ credit cards and cash
□ change of clothes and sturdy shoes
□ battery powered radio, and extra batteries
□ blankets or sleeping bags, rain poncho, body warmer
□ list of emergency plan contact info
□ booster cables for car, car shovel, rope, N95 dust mask, working gloves
□ flashlight with batteries
□ wind/waterproof matches, and candle
□ personal hygiene products (baby stuff, soap, tooth care, toilet paper)
□ games, books, hard candy, toys
□ tire repair kit and pump, duct tape, swiss army knife

You should also have a binder with the folloing information handy to grab:
We recommend storing your binder in a fireproof/ waterproof locked box that is small enough to be transported with you in an emergency.

□ birth certificates
□ passports
□ social security cards
□ copies of your credit cards front and back
□ homeowners insurance policy
□ auto insurance policy
□ life insurance policy
□ bank statements
□ retirement statements
□ *internet passwords (banking, personal, work etc)
□ immunization records
□ utility statements
□ work/tax documents that would be difficult to replace
□ CASH – keep a variety of small bills on hand

And for all those cute new mommies out there a list you need for those babies!

If you have an infant or a toddler at home, consider including these items as you put together your disaster and 72 hour kits for your family:
  • Instant formula. Make sure to buy the kind you do not need to mix with water. Also, track expiration dates and rotate through them frequently.
  • 5 small bottles for the formula. You can fill them with purified water to provide extra drinking water in your kit.
  • Refrigerated bottle bag. This is helpful in case you get the chance to warm up or cool down the formula you can keep it at that temperature for around 4 hours.
  • Plenty of diapers. The exact number needed depends on the age of your child. I recommend including about 20 disposables and also 3 cloth ones that can be washed, dried and reused in case you run out.
  • A travel package of wipes. These are great for washing as well. If you have space I’d recommend just storing a full box of wet wipes.
  • Pacifiers. Put in two just in case. If you’re stressed the baby will probably be stressed and it’s a comfort for them.
  • 3 cotton/flannel wraps, and 2 muslin wraps.
  • Baby food. Depending on the age of your child you will probably want to include some jars of baby food. Once your baby can eat mostly regular foods just pop these out of your kit.
  • Washcloths. Stored around 10 small ones, it’s an eventuality, you’ll require them at some point.
  • Small comfort toy/s. If you child has a specific toy or blanket that he/she really loves, try to grab that in an emergency. But if you can’t, then try to have a usable substitute that will help comfort the child in lieu of their favorite item.
  • Clothes – and plenty of them! This is a tough one as babies grow so fast. One trick I recommend is that as you swap out their closets to put in the next size of clothes to remember to do that in the disaster kit at the same time. Make sure to include clothes for all types of weather and include lots of spares.
  • Ziplock bags. These work great for storing used diapers or anything else that is dirty, or clean for that matter.
  • Bulb nose syringe and saline. Saline loosens mucous and syringe sucks water/mucous/misc out of ears, nose, mouth etc. You never know if you’ll need one so it’s great to keep in your kit.
  • Infant tylenol/motrin. It never fails that kids get sick as soon as you are somewhere WITHOUT your medicine. So this is a definite requirement for any child disaster kit.
  • Desatin or other diaper rash cream and travel-sized baby powder. The last thing you’d want in an emergency situation is a sore bum and nothing to treat it with. This will be especially useful if you have to resort to using cloth diapers.
The most important thing to remember is to always be thinking about what is appropriate for your child’s age and stage of development. For example, if your child is no longer drinking bottles then there is no reason to keep formula in your disaster kit.

Lets get packing Everyone!!!!

Cell Phone

Cell phones: great to have for Emergencies

A couple in our ward have done extensive research on the best cell phone plans, as we all know Verizon and At&T are taking us all to the cleaners.
The cheapest plan (just came to Nevada) is free and is available if you can prove an income < $21,000 / year. It includes a decent phone with 250 minutes / month. There are also generous international plans. This might be good for kids just starting out, people doing missionary work, retired people, etc. The program is funded by the phone industry (not the government) and comes from those little weird amounts on your telephone bill that no one can explain.

If you don't qualify for a free phone, the cheapest phones are from net10.com. They can cost as little as $5.00 / month (if you use the right plan) up to a maximum of 50,000 minutes / month for $50.00 (which is pretty good as there are only 43,200 minutes in 30 days). In all the plans, 411, texting, messaging, all fees, all taxes, etc. are all included.

All of these phones use the AT&T network. We switched and haven't found any bad areas in the local area. The customer service isn't as good as AT&T or Verizon, but they get the job done eventually.
